Outrunning Cancer By: David Haas

There is no cure for cancer but there are many things people can do to help fight it off. One of the most important things to be done in the fight against cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute, is exercise. As shown in this article there are tremendous benefits to exercising and supporting evidence that all cancer victims can benefit, whether struck with malignant melanoma or mesothelioma.

Exercise is so beneficial because it helps keep the body in equilibrium. When the body is in good shape, it is better able to fight off outside intruders and maladies. Exercise certainly will not cure cancer but it prepares the body to help fight it off. Many mesothelioma doctors have attested that physical fitness has helped prolong the lives of their patients. In some cases, consistent exercise both before and after diagnosis has prolonged lives by years.

Another reason exercise is so beneficial is it keeps a person in better tune with their body. When not exercising, the body tends to gain weight and cause a melancholic or lethargic state. When in a lethargic state, people are far less likely to notice a new pain or chalk it up to just getting more overweight. A healthy body has far more energy and when a sudden and unreasonable pain occurs that person is more likely to check with a doctor about the new pains.

Even if a person has not exercised before being diagnosed, it is advisable that they take it up after the diagnosis. Endorphins released during exercise can help reduce their overall negative feelings and worries about fighting cancer. In addition, the goals reached during attempted weight loss can be used to motivate a person towards the goal of beating cancer. A positive attitude is vitally important when fighting cancer and exercise can help improve the disposition of the most ornery person.

Cancer is no longer the automatic death sentence that it once was but that does not mean people can be too complacent when it pops up. Modern medicine can work miracles but sometimes the difference between life and death is wafer thin. By working at improving the overall condition of their body, cancer survivors find that they are filled with more energy and generally feel better about their well-being. Running may hurt in the short term but the benefits it brings with it are invaluable.

Attitude really is everything

Very inspirational story I would like to share of a woman that has gone through an experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer and been treated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy and now on a regimental 10 year course of hormonal therapy of tamoxifen.

This woman keeps right on going with the amazing support of her lovely daughters and of course her husband. It is so great to read stories like this where people have family that stands by them like this. As there are some out there that go it alone and I met some when I was going through my own cancer treatments last year.

I ♥ Boobies Bracelets Causes A Media Stir...

On May 12, 2011 a bunch of students gathered in front of their school ' RS McLaughlin ' in Oshawa, Ontario CANADA to protest the schools decision to ban their ' I ♥ Boobies ' bracelets. This was a fundraising initiave of ' Keep A Breast Canada ' , as well as it was the students doing their part in wanting to advocate to increase breast cancer awareness amongst their peers, family and friends and in the community.

Statement from the school read:
The dress code prohibits students from wearing anything that references alcohol or sexual innuendos, explained, Ms. Vandriel in a Durham News Advertiser interview.

Several students were pulled from class and told not to return until they removed their bracelets.

From my stand-point, there is absolutely nothing sexually intended about ' I ♥ Boobies ' .  I feel it is really great that today's young people are showing leadership and wanting to get out in the community and amongst their peers to increase awareness about this horrible illness ' breast cancer ' .  These young people doing this will help someone and possibly a young person that may have a chance to being diagnosed with breast cancer get detected at a very, very early stage.

A student from R.S. McLaughlin Tyler Porter has set up a website at http://www.boobiehealth.com to keep us all up to date on the ' I ♥ Boobies ' campaign.  If you would like more information about this campaign or how you can donate to this campaign, please go to the website and click ' contact us ' and I am most certain that someone will get back to you next to immediately!

Chemo Drug Shortages in Canada

Here is a video about chemo drug shortages in Canada.

Is there anybody that is having chemotherapy at the moment, and that is affected by the drug shortages?  How is your hospital handling this, how do you as a patient handle this?

Tamoxifen - Season Allergies - Allergy Injections

Sometime in the middle of March 2010 I started to take 20mg of Tamoxifen of which I am on for 5 years (until March 2015). The Tamoxifen is apart of my cancer treatment.  I was diagnosed with two types of breast cancer in the fall of 2009.  The cancer treatments I went through were 4 sessions of chemotherapy every 3 weeks (December 2 2009 - February 2 2010) and radiation therapy RADS 25 BOOSTS 5 March 2010.

I was informed by the Pharmacy Oncologist, and just recently by my own Pharmacist that for the balance of the next 4 years I cannot get my seasonal allergy injections, and as well last year I did not get my seasonal allergy injections, as it would affect the potentcy of Tamoxifen. So over allergy season being Spring, Summer and Fall I will be taking allergy tablets that will not affect the potency of Tamoxifen.

Are there others that are currently on Tamoxifen and that were previousily dependent on seasonal allergy injections, and have also been told that they cannot get allergy injections as long as on Tamoxifen. So what are many of you doing to help you through allergy season?  Do you find that your allergies are worse now since being on Tamoxifen, because of not being able to be on the injections. I am right now having severe bronchial spasms.

Want to hear from others on Tamoxifen and having a bad seasonal allergy time??
